Youth Programs
CPPA Youth Ambassador
The California Pork Ambassador Program is designed for youth to develop strong
relationships with producers and members of the swine industry. It is an opportunity to
improve your communication and leadership skills and become informed about pork production
issues and changes. The main goal of the Pork Ambassador Program is to promote California
Pork Producers and the swine industry at various events throughout the year.
The program has unlimited possibilities. Our members range from educators at several
different agricultural colleges such as UC Davis, CSU Fresno, and Modesto Junior College.
They also include commercial swine operators, breeding stock producers and boar studs.
The opportunities are endless. The successful candidate will gain valuable experience
and develop relationships that will last a lifetime.

William "Bill" Silveira Scholarship
CPPA Founder, Visionary & Agriculturist – Scholarship Application
As each year passes, more and more people realize that impact that William "Bill" Silveira had on the
California Pork Producers Association. A visionary, Bill poured his heart and soul into making CPPA
work for pork producers. This legacy lives on today.
After Bill's passing his loving wife Sofia started a scholarship fund for junior CPPA members in his
memory. Bill believed in young people and knew providing them opportunities would pay dividends well into the
future. The Silveira Scholarship Fund was established to help cultivate future CPPA and agriculture industry
leaders. With the support of a number of CPPA members, the fund continues to grow.
For the past four years, the Silveira family has helped CPPA present hard working and dedicated pork
producers who are pursuing a college education with financial assistance. The award will be given to the
most qualified recipient and awarded at the 2008 Pork Spectacular.
PLEASE NOTE: In order for your application to be considered, it must meet all of the following

14th Annual Loaner Gilt Program
The Directors of the California Pork Producers Association and the CPPA Swine Improvement Committee
would like to invite the breeders of our organization and junior members to participate in the 14th Annual Loaner
Gilt Program.
The main goal of this program is to promote interaction between the leaders of today and those of tomorrow by
providing junior members high quality purebred gilt’s for a period of one year. This concept is a practical way
to encourage junior exhibitors to become active in the swine industry by expanding their experiences.
Members are invited to provide constructive suggestions to enhance the program and to provide a positive
experience for the participating members. CPPA is very enthused about the impact that this program has had,
and asks for your participations, leadership, and support!!
Each breeder will select a quality gilt from their herd, transport the female to the Pork Spectacular and
communicate with the recipient of the gilt at least four times during the program year. The breeder will
also be available for consultation as needed by the junior recipient. Breeders may fax in their Breeders
Application, but must do so by December 15, 2007.
Each CPPA junior participant will have completed a “Loaner Gilt Proposal: and assume all normal production
expenses with the exception of purchase price. A $100.00 earnest deposit must accompany the application.
The loaner gilt applicants must attend the 2008 Pork Spectacular to receive the gilt and meet the breeder
which is donating the gilt. The junior member will draft quarterly reports and send a copy to both the
original owner and the CPPA office. Participants are strongly encouraged to breed the gilts so that they
may exhibit progeny at the 2009 Pork Spectacular.
Other items of interest to both parties include:
- Separate Health certificate must be provided on each gilt.
- Gilts will be quality sifted at the Pork Spectacular.
