California Pork Producers Association Launches Certified California Bred Program at State Fair

Over the weekend at the 2025 California State Fair, the California Pork Producers Association (CPPA) ushered in a new era with the introduction of its Certified California Bred Program, showcasing a fresh commitment to supporting California breeders and highlighting youth exhibition success.

CPPA's new initiative designates barrows that are bred and raised entirely within California by participants and farms enrolled in the program. With a checkbox on entry forms, exhibitors can now proudly signal their barrows bred by California showpig breeders who have enrolled in the program – an important advancement backed by CPPA.

The program kicked off at the State Fair’s Market Barrow Show on, where it was met with enthusiasm. Fair officials and CPPA representatives presented the inaugural Certified California Bred banners, hats and recognition to youth exhibitors and their breeders. Breed champion and reserve champions will also receive premium checks for their achievements.

Kallie Loogman of Hanford FFA exhibited both the Grand and Reserve Champion Certified California Bred Barrows. Loogman’s Champion Duroc was bred by BK Livesotck and her Champion Light Cross was bred by Kallie Loogman herself.

The California Pork Producers Association extends sincere gratitude to the breeders and generous sponsors who made the launch of the Certified California Bred Program possible. Special thanks to Associated Feeds, Farmers Warehouse Company, KB Livestock Show Supply, Alltech, Sierra Nevada Farms Showpigs, and Brianna Parker for their continued support of youth exhibitors and California’s swine industry.

We are excited to continue growing the Certified California Bred Program—not only to recognize outstanding exhibitors and California breeders, but also to help maintain, secure, and promote swine exhibitor participation across the state, while increasing demand for California-bred barrows. We look forward to presenting the CCBP program later this month at the California Youth Ag Expo in Tulare!
